Quick answer: Before submitting a card for grading, make sure the card’s expected graded value exceeds raw value plus grading, shipping, insurance, and currency costs. Then inspect condition carefully and package the card in a sleeve and semi-rigid holder.
1

Confirm the card is worth grading

Estimate raw value, graded value, and grading/shipping fees. Cards under $50 CAD usually need strong condition or rarity to justify grading.

2

Inspect condition under bright light

Check centering, corners, edges, and surface. Use a loupe for scratches, dents, print lines, and corner whitening.

3

Choose PSA, BGS, or SGC

Use PSA for resale value, BGS for Chrome/sub-grades, and SGC for faster turnaround or budget-friendly submissions.

4

Prepare the card safely

Use a penny sleeve and semi-rigid holder. Do not tape the card. Label cards according to the grading company submission form.

5

Pack and ship securely

Sandwich holders between cardboard, use bubble wrap, and ship with tracking/insurance for higher-value cards.

6

Record cert and result

When the slab returns, record the grade, cert number, declared value, fee, and sale comps for future tracking.
