In card collecting, a 'PC' (player collection) is a dedicated collection of cards of a single player. Many collectors consider their PC the heart of their hobby — and for good reason.
Why Build a PC?
A focused player collection is:
- Emotionally rewarding — Every addition connects to someone you genuinely care about
- Financially manageable — You know exactly what you want, so you can budget
- Intellectually engaging — Learning every set, every parallel, every insert of your player is genuinely fun
- Community building — Other collectors who PC the same player become friends and trading partners
Choosing Your PC Player
The best PC players are ones you: 1. Genuinely love (as a player or person) 2. Can afford to collect meaningfully 3. Will stay interested in long-term
Collecting a superstar PC is exciting but expensive. Some of the most rewarding PCs are of players who are great but not quite top-tier — deep availability at fair prices.
Building the PC
Start with the essentials:
- Base rookie card (ideally graded)
- Auto RC if budget allows
- Key parallel RCs (Prizm Silver, Chrome Refractor)
- Year-by-year base cards
Then go deeper:
- Numbered parallels
- Game-used relics
- Patch autos
- SP variations and short prints
- 1/1 plates (the ultimate)
Tracking Your PC
Keep a spreadsheet or use a platform like Collect to track:
- What you have
- What you're looking for
- What you paid
- Estimated current values
